Hypnotherapy
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process between a therapist and client which, whilst the client is in a trance like state, utilises the power of positive suggestion to bring about changes to thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
What’s involved?
At your first hypnotherapy appointment a full, detailed consultation will take place. This will involve taking a full medical history, lifestyle, details of what you perceive your issue to be, why you think you have this issue, what you have tried to resolve the issue in the past.
Once we have agreed your goal(s) from having hypnotherapy, I will then begin the process of changing your thoughts, feelings and behaviours relating to the issue you have. Hypnosis is, in effect, a deep state of relaxation which leaves your subconscious mind open to suggestion. A session of hypnotherapy should leave you feeling calm, relaxed and ready to face your challenges with new rigour.
I will also explain how hypnotherapy works as well as practical information such a cost, cancellation policy and how many sessions you may need.
I’m on medication, can I still have hypnotherapy?
You shouldn’t use hypnosis if you suffer from psychosis or certain types of personality disorder, as it could make these conditions worse. If you have any other medical concerns, please speak to your doctor prior to making an appointment.
How long does a session last?
The first session of hypnotherapy is typically around an hour and a half given such a detailed discussion takes place before the session begins, and each session thereafter, is typically around an hour.
How many sessions will I need?
As every person is unique, this is a difficult question to answer. Most people find fantastic results within 2-6 sessions, however, results are often achieved after just one session. Sessions can be arranged to suit your budget but are typically two weeks apart. As the sessions progress, typically they will become further and further apart until clients get to the stage that they simply want to “check-in” every now and again. Until you have actually tried hypnosis, there is no way of definitely knowing how many you will need.
Is there an age limit?
Anyone over the age of 18 years can choose to see a therapist. If you are under 18 you will need the permission of a parent or guardian and they will need to accompany you to any appointments. There is no upper age limit.
Will I lose control?
This is a common misconception. During hypnosis, you are still in full control, you can hear everything that is going on around you and you can come out of trance anytime you want to.
What does hypnosis feel like?
This can vary from person to person, everyone will experience something different from their sessions. However, common descriptions are a very deep state of relaxation, either floating sensations or feeling heavy, some people see vivid colours and others experience calm and yet exhilarating feelings. One thing is for sure, not one of my clients have ever regretted having hypnotherapy.
Will anyone know I am having hypnotherapy?
Not unless you tell them! All sessions are strictly confidential.
